About Sponsored Content

Celiac Safe occasionally partners with brands to create sponsored content. These partnerships help fund our operations while providing you with information about products that may be useful for your gluten-free lifestyle.

This page explains how we handle sponsored content and maintain the editorial integrity our community depends on.

How We Label Sponsored Content

All sponsored content is clearly disclosed. You'll see one or more of these indicators:

  • Header badge: A prominent "Sponsored" or "Partnership" label at the top of the article, visible before you start reading
  • Disclosure statement: A written disclosure identifying the sponsor and explaining the relationship
  • Frontmatter tag: Articles include metadata indicating sponsored status

Our disclosure language follows FTC guidelines and is designed to be clear and unambiguous.

Types of Sponsored Content

We offer several types of brand partnerships:

Product Reviews

Brands may pay for a dedicated review of their product. Even paid reviews reflect our honest opinion - we do not guarantee positive coverage.

Recipe Sponsorship

A brand may sponsor a recipe that features their product as an ingredient. We create and test all recipes ourselves.

Brand Spotlights

Multi-article campaigns highlighting a brand's products and story. Always clearly marked as sponsored throughout.

Product Features

Paid inclusion of a product in a roundup or comparison article. The product must still meet our standards and fit the article topic.

Our Editorial Standards

Sponsorship does not guarantee positive coverage. We maintain these standards for all sponsored content:

What We Promise

  • Honest, balanced reviews based on actual product testing
  • Verification that products meet celiac-safe standards
  • Content written in our authentic voice and style
  • Clear and prominent disclosure of the sponsorship
  • Editorial independence in our opinions and ratings

What We Won't Do

  • Accept payment to guarantee a positive review
  • Remove accurate negative observations at a sponsor's request
  • Feature products that don't meet our safety standards
  • Allow sponsors to edit or control our editorial content
  • Hide or minimize sponsorship disclosures

Product Safety Requirements

We only accept sponsored content for products that meet our celiac-safe standards:

  • Required: Third-party gluten-free certification (GFCO, NSF, or equivalent)
  • Required: Clear allergen labeling
  • Required: No "may contain wheat" or shared facility warnings
  • Preferred: Dedicated gluten-free manufacturing facility

We will decline sponsorship opportunities from brands whose products don't meet these criteria, regardless of payment offered.

Sponsor Review Process

Before publication, sponsors receive a review opportunity for factual accuracy only. They may:

  • Correct factual errors (product details, certifications, pricing)
  • Update brand information
  • Request clarification on product features

Sponsors cannot request changes to:

  • Our opinions, ratings, or recommendations
  • Comparative statements with other products
  • Editorial voice or article structure
  • Disclosure language or placement

Gifted Products

We sometimes receive products for free for review purposes. Even when a product is gifted (not a paid sponsorship), we disclose this relationship. Look for labels such as:

  • "Product provided for review"
  • "Gifted product"
  • "Sample received"

Gifted products receive the same honest, independent review as products we purchase ourselves.

Questions About Specific Content

If you're unsure whether content is sponsored, look for:

  1. A badge or label at the top of the article
  2. A disclosure statement near the beginning
  3. The word "Sponsored," "Partnership," or "Ad" in the metadata
